Weight:

66-85 pounds (30-38.5 kilograms).

Height:

24-27.5 inches (61-70 cm) at the shoulders.

Color(s):

Standard colorings are black, harlequin, and black and tan.

Coat:

Beaucerons have short, close coats that require minimal grooming.

Beaucerons are very intelligent dogs that enjoy spending time both indoors and outdoors.

Country of Origin:

France.

History:

This breed originated in France during the 1500s. Beaucerons were originally used for hunting but have also been used as herding dogs for hundreds of years.

Name:

Beauceron, Berger de Beauce, Bas Rouge, French Shorthaired Shepherd, Beauce Shepherd.

Temperament:

Beaucerons are highly intelligent and independent. Friendly with their owners and with children they are raised with, these dogs tend to be wary of strangers. Beaucerons are generally one-person dogs.

Care

Training:

Incredibly intelligent, these dogs can easily be trained for a number of different activities and purposes.

Activity:

The Beauceron is a working dog and is quite active.

Ownership:

Friendly and calm, Beaucerons are good with children they are raised with. These dogs make good guard dogs and are protective of the children of their household. Due to its independent and take-charge nature, the Beauceron is not the best choice for a first-time dog owner.
