History:

Belgian Sheepdogs originated in Belgium during the thirteenth century. This breed has been recognized by the American Kennel Club since 1959.

Name:

Also known as the Belgian Shepherd Dog or Chien de Berger Belge.

Temperament:

Belgian Sheepdogs are alert and sensitive to their surroundings. They’re somewhat prone to irrational fears during their younger years and require close interaction with people.

Care

Training:

Belgian Sheepdog can have an extremely bad reaction to punishment or other negative forms of training so it’s important that training techniques be based upon a reward system. Professional training is recommended for this breed.

Activity:

Belgian Sheepdogs are active dogs that require plenty of activity and mental stimulation. These animals like to have a job to do and need close interaction with people.

Ownership:

Belgian Sheepdogs are loyal, intelligent, and fun family companions. However, they are not ideal for inexperienced owners or for those who cannot meet their needs for human interaction, activity, and mental stimulation. When bored, these dogs can become destructive.
