Black Russian Terriers are intelligent and loyal animals. They enjoy human company and form strong bonds with their family members.

Russia.

History:

This breed originated in Russia during the 20th century, just following the second world war. Bred primarily as military and police dogs, Black Russian Terriers are still relatively uncommon outside of Russia. However, since the collapse of the Soviet Union, these dogs have become more popular in other parts of the world and the American Kennel Club recently recognized the breed in 2004.

Temperament:

Black Russian Terriers have a calm disposition and are brave and confident. While cautious of strangers and protective of family members, Black Russian Terriers like human companionship. These dogs tend to have a dominant nature.

Care

Training:

Due to their dominant nature, it’s very important that these dogs receive early socialization and obedience training. They respond best to firm and consistent training techniques.

Activity:

Black Russian Terriers are very active and require plenty of exercise. As working dogs, they prefer to have a job to do. These dogs perform well in agility trials and dog sports.

Ownership:

Black Russian Terriers are generally one-person dogs and are quite wary of strangers. They require a high level of activity to prevent them from becoming bored and destructive. These dogs bond deeply with their family members and love human companionship.
