Burmillas are similar in character to their close cousins, Burmese cats. Friendly, sociable, and affectionate, Burmillas like to play and to spend time with their owners. These cats often behave like kittens well into adulthood.

History:

The Burmilla breed was created in Britain in the early 1980s through the accidental crossing of a chinchilla Persian and a lilac-colored Burmese. This new breed then achieved championship status in the United Kingdom in 1984.

Name:

“Burmilla” is a combination of the words Burmese and Chinchilla.

Temperament:

Burmillas are independent cats, but they love to be around their owners. These cats get along well with children and with other animals. As social cats, Burmillas like to be cuddled and to have companionship.

Care

Training:

Burmillas are intelligent cats and can be trained quite easily.

Activity:

Burmillas are energetic cats and have a high activity level. While not as boisterous as Burmese cats, Burmillas are still active and playful.

Ownership:

Like Burmese cats, Burmillas are best suited to homes where they will receive plenty of attention and where they can interact regularly with their family members. These cats often demand attention will even hold conversations with their owners. It’s important to provide these playful cats with plenty of toys and a scratching post. Burmillas get along well with children and other pets, and they need to be treated as part of the family.
