Character:

Caring and pleasant, Manchester Terriers make great one-family companions. These dogs are very alert and tend to be wary of strangers. Manchester Terriers are neither shy nor aggressive and are very affectionate and loyal animals.

History:

The Manchester Terrier was developed in the Manchester area of England during the sixteenth century. Originally, these dogs were used for activities such as rat killing. This breed has been present in the United States since the late nineteenth century, and since 1959 both the toy and standard versions of this breed have been registered with the American Kennel Club as a single breed.

Temperament:

Manchester Terriers are generally pleasant dogs that are known to adapt themselves to the moods of their owners. However, these terriers often don’t get along well with other pets, especially if they’re small.

Care

Training:

Manchester Terriers can be trained to perform well in obedience competitions as well as in agility trials and flyball. In recent years, Manchester Terriers have also been used as therapy dogs.

Activity:

Manchester Terriers enjoy physical exercise but also like to curl up with their owners or lounge in the sunshine.

Ownership:

These terriers are excellent house pets, as they enjoy lounging around as much as they enjoy physical activity. Alert, loyal, and affectionate, Manchester Terriers generally get along well with other dogs, but not necessarily with other pets. Manchester Terriers are not suited for spending long periods of time outside, especially in cold or bad weather.
