Character:

Miniature Schnauzers are intelligent and lively. These dogs make loyal companions and require plenty of affection and attention, otherwise they may become depressed.

Germany.

History:

This German breed was developed by crossing the Standard Schnauzer with the Affenpinscher during the 1800s. Originally created as ratting dogs, Miniature Schnauzers arrived in the United States in 1925 and soon became very popular. This breed was registered with the American Kennel Club in 1926.

Name:

Additional names include Zwergschnauzer and Dwarf Schnauzer.

Temperament:

Alert and vocal, Miniature Schnauzers make great watchdogs. They tend to be wary of strangers at first, but will accept new people once they are welcomed into the home by the homeowners. Miniature Schnauzers are generally very good with both children and the elderly.

Care

Training:

Miniature Schnauzers are intelligent dogs and are very trainable. While this breed has a tendency to be overly vocal at times, this can be dealt with through proper training.

Activity:

Miniature Schnauzers are very active and playful dogs. If not provided with sufficient exercise and playtime, these dogs can become difficult to deal with.

Ownership:

These dogs are energetic and playful animals, and require lots of attention and affection from their owners. Miniature Schnauzers tend to get along well with children and their non-shedding coats make them a good choice for potential dog owners who suffer from allergies.
