Character:

Olde English Bulldogges are athletic and courageous animals. These qualities in addition to their great personalities make Olde English Bulldogges excellent guard dogs as well as wonderful companions.

History:

Created by David Leavitt of the United States in the 1970’s, the Olde English Bulldogge is a new and quite rare re- creation of a breed of bulldog that existed in England during the early nineteenth century. Leavitt developed this new breed by crossing English Bulldogs with Bull Mastiffs, Pit Bulls, and American Bulldogs. Leavitt’s goal was to create a breed with the looks of the bulldog from the 1700’s and with the temperament of the modern English Bulldog yet without the many ailments and health afflictions that plague English Bulldogs. The Olde English Bulldogge is currently not recognized by any major kennel clubs.

Name:

This breed was named for the fact that it’s a re-creation of a type of English Bulldog that lived during the early eighteenth century.

Temperament:

Olde English Bulldogges are docile with family and friends but are bold and fearless when their property or owners are under threat. Eager to please, these dogs will enthusiastically try to do whatever is asked of them. Females of this breed tend to be more territorial than males.

Care

Training:

Olde English Bulldogges are extremely eager to please and are therefore relatively easy to train.

Activity:

Olde English Bulldogges have a moderate activity level and require daily walks. When properly conditioned, these dogs can become more active.

Ownership:

Olde English Bulldogges are friendly companions that love to please their owners. Since they have a tendency to chew on things, these dogs should be supplied with a variety of chew toys. Olde English Bulldogges also have a tendency to slobber quite a lot. Due to their build, these dogs should not be encouraged to jump, especially at a young age. The average lifespan of this breed is typically at least 11 years. Olde English Bulldogges are average shedders and only require occasional brushing to maintain their coats.
