Character:

Sloughis are intelligent and active dogs that enjoy variety, especially when it comes to exercise. These quiet dogs are subtle with respect to showing affection yet they form strong bonds with their owners.

Morocco.

History:

While the origins of this breed are not concretely known, it is thought that the Sloughi could have descended from the Egyptian Greyhound. Extremely rare in the West, the Sloughi is mostly only found in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya where it is still used for hunting and guarding just as it was in the past.

Name:

The Sloughi was named for a city in Tunisia. Additional names for this breed include Arabian Greyhound and Sloughi Moghrebi.

Temperament:

Sloughis are independent and strong-willed, yet tend to be somewhat skittish. Although reserved with strangers, these dogs become very attached to their owners and are quite sensitive by nature.

Care

Training:

Due to their sensitive natures, Sloughis require friendly and gentle training. That said, these dogs are quite easy to raise and train when you have the proper knowledge.

Activity:

This breed likes to keep moving and requires various forms of regular exercise.

Ownership:

Sloughis are not ideal for apartment living but they can adapt to urban life as long as they receive plenty of walks and other exercise. This breed does not tolerate cold weather and needs to be brushed at least twice a week. Sloughis generally enjoy good health, although they tend to be sensitive to anaesthesia, vaccines, and certain medications.
