Character:

White Swiss Shepherds are lively, alert, and watchful dogs. As a result of these personality traits, these dogs are great herding dogs, guards, guide dogs, and companions.

Country of Origin:

Switzerland.

History:

This breed was developed in Switzerland from white-coated German Shepherds that were brought to the country from the United States and Canada during the 1970’s and 1980’s. As a recent breed, the White Swiss Shepherd is currently only recognized by the FCI and the UKC. However, several groups are working to increase official recognition of this breed around the world.

Name:

This breed is also known as the White Shepherd Dog, the White German Shepherd, Weiße Schäferhunde, and Weisser Schweizer Schäferhund. A common nickname for this breed is Snowy Shepherd.

Temperament:

White Swiss Shepherds are confident and fearless, yet not hostile. While these dogs tend to display a certain degree of aloofness, this does not prevent them from forming close relationships with their owners.

Care

Training:

White Swiss Shepherds are intelligent, poised dogs that can be well-trained for a variety of tasks such as guiding and herding.

Activity:

These dogs are quite active and require regular exercise.

Ownership:

White Swiss Shepherds are large, active dogs but do well in both the city and in the country as long as they receive plenty of regular exercise. These dogs also like to play and are happiest when they’re kept busy. White Swiss Shepherds are great companions in addition to great working dogs and they love to spend time with their owners.
