History:

In County Cork, Ireland, the forerunners of the Irish Terrier may include the Black and Tan Terrier and another terrier. This bold and lively breed became renowned for hunting fox, otter and vermin. At the end of the 19th-century, this dog developed a solid red coat. This retriever worked as a messenger and sentinel during World War I.

The Irish Terrier enjoys digging, tracking, hunting, retrieving, chasing and exploring. This breed has worked for the police and military.
