History:

The Javanese has roots in the Siamese-style cat in personality and conformation. This breed is also closely related to the Balinese. The crossing of Balinese and colourpoint shorthair helped introduce colors to the Balinese line. What developed were the longhaired colourpoint cats.

Name:

Named after Java. Note that this breed was not developed in Java.

Temperament:

The Javanese likes to communicate through its frequent meows. Personality may match with the coat colour. This cat likes to remind owner of his routines, such as meal times.

This intelligent cat is easy to train. The Javanese can play fetch and encourage his owner to throw.

Activity:

Provide exercise to keep the Javanese healthy and fit. Be aware this cat may be prone to gaining weight. They like to play with a ping pong ball or other small toy. Provide a scratching surface such as a scratching post. This cat likes to take part in the owner’s activities. They enjoy riding on human shoulders.

Ownership:

The Javanese is good with children. This social cat follows people and may get underfoot. Owners should spend plenty of time playing. If left without interaction, this cat may feel depressed when alone for too long. A second cat can provide a great companion when humans are away for hours.
