This breed originated in Kenya where it was discovered in the Arabuko-Sokoke forest in 1978 by Jeni Slater. One of Slater’s friends exported some of these cats to Denmark where she began to breed them. First shown in 1984, the Sokoke breed was officially recognized in 1993.
Named for the Arabuko-Sokoke forest on the coast of Kenya where the breed originated. Previously known as the Khadzonzos.
