Character:

Toy Manchester Terriers are energetic and spirited dogs. Happy and cheerful, Toy Manchester Terriers are fun and affectionate companions.

Country of Origin:

England.

History:

This breed was developed by breeding small Standard Manchester Terriers and became particularly popular during Queen Victoria’s era when it was highly fashionable for women to carry diminutive dogs. During this time period, Toy Manchester Terriers were often as small as 2.5 pounds. However, since the beginning of the twentieth century, breeders have made these toy terriers stronger and more robust.

Name:

This breed was named for the fact that it is a diminutive version of the original Manchester Terrier.

Temperament:

The Toy Manchester Terrier has a true terrier temperament. Lively and hardy, this breed is wary of strangers and has an excellent watchdog ability.

Care

Training:

These small terriers require firm training.

Activity:

The Toy Manchester Terrier has only a moderate exercise requirement.

Ownership:

Toy Manchester Terriers are excellent indoor companions. Observant and with a shrill bark, these animals will guard your home and raise the alarm to alert you of approaching strangers. Although they require daily brushing, Toy Manchester Terriers are relatively easy to care for and only require moderate exercise.
