Character:

Pont Audemer Spaniels are gentle and affectionate dogs and make wonderful pets and companions. These spaniels also have a fun-loving side and are sometimes referred to as “le petit clown des marais” or “the little clown of the marshes.”

History:

It is believed that the Pont Audemer Spaniel was developed in France during the nineteenth century. While the breed’s exact ancestry remains unknown, it is possible that the Irish Water Spaniel, Barbet, and perhaps the Poodle are all part of the Pont Audemer Spaniel’s genetic makeup. By the arrival of the twentieth century, this breed was quite rare and still remains so today.
