According to the breed standard, the weight of a Romanian Shepherd Dog should be in harmony with its size and not too heavy.

Height:

59-73 cm at the shoulders.

Color(s):

Standard colourings include pale fawn with black or wolf-grey overlying tones.

Coat:

The Romanian Shepherd Dog has a straight outer coat of dense fur and a soft undercoat.

Character:

Romanian Shepherd Dogs are friendly and energetic dogs that love to run around and play. These dogs also adore children and make very devoted companions.

Country of Origin:

Romania.

History:

Originating from the Carpathian Mountains in northeastern Romania, this breed was developed for protecting herds. Highly admired in its native country, the Romanian Shepherd Dog has received plenty of attention with respect to selective breeding and breed improvements. In 1982, the first standard for this breed was written and the Romanian Shepherd Dog was officially recognized by the UKC in 2006.

Name:

This breed is also known as the Ciobănesc de Bucovina, Bucovina Sheepdog, and Bucovina Shepherd.

Temperament:

The Romanian Shepherd Dog has a very balanced and calm disposition. Wary of strangers, these animals are excellent watchdogs and protectors of herds and flocks.

Care

Training:

These dogs are relatively easy to train and make great working dogs.

Activity:

Romanian Shepherd Dogs are very energetic and playful dogs.

Ownership:

Due to their high level of energy and playful nature, Romanian Shepherd Dogs require plenty of space and daily exercise. These dogs love children and are very kind and gentle. In addition to being great companions, Romanian Shepherd Dogs are also excellent watchdogs and have a very powerful bark.
